ABOUT US
General Doors Corp. has been manufacturing sectional overhead doors since 1947.
Originally, the product lines were entirely wood doors, but we added commercial steel doors in the 1970’s and residential steel doors in the 1980’s. The 1990’s brought development of a network of distribution and sub-manufacturing facilities to serve the East and Northeast parts of the country. The current decade has brought a continued expansion of manufacturing and distribution space, and the development of wood and steel carriage style doors. We are one of the few door companies that still makes a full line of wood doors and that still manufactures our own track and hardware.
General Doors' main office and manufacturing plant is located in Bristol, Pa., approximately 20 miles north of Philadelphia. In addition, locations owned and operated under the General umbrella include: Dor-Set Corp., Bristol, Pa. (steel door manufacturing), and distribution centers including “Banner Doors” locations in Woonsocket RI, Newington CT, Lewiston ME, Hudson MA, Manchester NH, Geneva NY, and “Bristol Doors” in Cincinnati OH. We also have distribution centers in Hauppauge, NY called General Doors of Long Island, and in Fairfield, NJ called General Doors of New Jersey. Another name was added to this list when we entered into a partnership to form Artisan Custom Doorworks in Morgantown, PA.
Operating as a separate company, Artisan can specialize in the attention to detail required in the custom door market, backed up by the engineering, manufacturing and distribution experience of a door company that’s been around for over 75 years.
General Doors manufactures the large majority of the products we sell, but we supplement our production by distributing the best complimentary product lines available in the industry: urethane foam insulated steel doors by Richards Wilcox, and operators by Liftmaster. Our goal is to make each product line we offer the best available in its class, each one an appropriate balance of appearance, construction, durability and value.
The company sells on a strictly wholesale basis to approximately 1,000 professional garage door distributors and building supply companies. Our objective is to work closely with our distributors, supplying the right product at the right price, along with the technical support necessary to help them grow their business.
The explosion of different models, designs, materials, and colors used to make doors (not to mention operators) that has occurred in our industry in the last 20 years or so has changed the business dramatically—at least on the manufacturing and the sales side. What hasn’t changed much is the installation. General Doors’ has the capabilities to support our distributors through the installation. That’s why each location can not only cut out lites, cut down sections, or insulate doors to help get the sale, they also have the experience to calculate and cut springs or cable and fabricate track to help the service and installation.
